Lear PETC Honored with “Gawad Tugas Award” by the Philippines’ DENR
Last month during the fourth Gawad Tugas Awards Night in Cebu, Philippines, the Lear Philippines Engineering and Technology Center (PETC) received the Gawad Tugas Award from the Philippines' Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for its long-sustained biodiversity projects.
The Gawad Tugas promotes and replicates good environmental practices performed by the winners and recognizes institutions which have made outstanding contributions in the protection, conservation and management of the environment and natural resources.
14 national government agencies, private companies, local government units (LGUs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were awarded with this prestigious award and Lear PETC was one of only seven winners in the private company sector.
Lear PETC's biodiversity project started in 2014 when they supported the preservation efforts of the endangered Cebu Flying Fox. In the same ecosystem of the southern Cebu rainforest, they then supported the conservation efforts of the critically endangered Cebu Cinnamon Tree in 2015 and 2016, first by tagging and monitoring the mother trees, which is essential in their reproduction, and then reforesting patches of the forest with the endangered tree species.
In 2017, Lear PETC supported the forest wardens by providing them essential equipment. In early 2018, the team further supported the reforestation endeavors by donating a rain catchment system for the nursery.
