VisionTec™ Power Head Restraint Controls

Increased Visibility by Lowering H/R Using Rearview Mirror Sensors

Rear head restraints have proven to impede driver’s vision. This new innovation provides for reflection of each head restraint, which is mapped on the surface of the rear view mirror to a touch sensor. The sensor can be located behind the surface of the mirror, on the frame of the mirror, or it can be an infrared beam in front of the mirror. To improve rearward vision, the system allows the driver the ability to look into the rear view mirror and keep his/her finger near the image of any head restraint in the mirror to selectively lower it.

VisionTec™ Manual Head Restraint Controls

Actuators Allow Driver Improved Rearward Vision

This function provides the driver a feature that will allow the head restraints in the second row to be lowered without getting out of the car. Head restraint actuators (strap, button, lever) are present at the front of the cushion of the rear seat. The driver has the ability to reach back and pull the strap or activate the button/lever to lower the head restraints impairing rearward vision, without leaving the driver’s seat.

ProTec™ PLuS Anti-whiplash System

Our second-generation self-aligning head restraint offers increased safety and is able to pass the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 202a dynamic seat test option.

Anti-whiplash ProTec™ PLuS

Product Benefits:

  • Significantly reduces forces on the neck
  • Design-adaptable for improved rearward and lateral vision
  • Allows reduced height for rearward vision

Program Highlights:

  • Supports the head of a 50th-percentile occupant even if the head restraint has not been adjusted
  • Meets proposed FMVSS 202a dynamic requirement of head rotation for the Hybrid III 50th- and 95th-percentile adult test dummies
  • Improved comfort by exceeding the federal geometric backset requirement and passing the dynamic test

Light Electronics Systems

Lear's Light Control Electronics products manage any vehicle light source, as well as stepper motors for active front light or automatic headlamp leveling, with highly-integrated and cost-optimized solutions. This high level of integration supports the prime directives of automakers, such as cost reduction, quality improvement, reliability, feature content, simplified development processes and use of common parts across as many vehicles as possible. Lear lighting power control modules are designed to help automakers meet their market goals while allowing cost efficient implementation of innovative features. For years, Lear has been providing consumers with reliable exterior light functionality at low running costs, and our products can be found in many well known brands worldwide.

Innovation in complex environments:

Today's light electronics systems are becoming increasingly complex, and the requirements of vehicle manufacturers are constantly growing. Lear is continuously researching innovative concepts to provide solutions for:

  • Control of new light sources, such as Light Emitting Diodes (LED) for headlamps, indicators, day time running lights, fog lights and tail lamps
  • Next-generation adaptive headlight systems (AFS plus) — innovative adjustment of front-lights for city-light, country-light and motorway-light
  • Innovative packaging concepts — such as the integration of electronics into headlamps in close cooperation with headlamp manufacturers

Our light electronic experts continuously work on these complex topics to exceed the requirements and expectations of our customers with regards to quality, reliability and technical progress.

Experience is key to success:

Lear has over 20 years experience in electronic light control. Lear also has extensive experience in commonly used vehicle bus systems like CAN, LIN, MOST, Ethernet or Flexray, which are increasingly important in current and future vehicle architectures.

Because of our close cooperation with customers and lamp manufacturers to develop and produce current and next-generation vehicle lighting systems, our extensive experience with centralized and bus based decentralized concepts and our lengthy experience with active front light systems and system diagnostics requirements, Lear is a first-choice partner for vehicle manufacturers worldwide.
