PVI Method™
Bringing tomorrow’s technology and innovations to today’s customers
When it comes to automotive components and systems, no other company delivers like Lear. To get the job done, Lear employs the exclusive People-Vehicle-Interface (PVI) Methodology. The innovative PVI development discipline turns market opportunities into interior systems that fit together, work together, and delight customers. The PVI method consists of six steps: consumer research of a target segment, application of the industrial design, technical analysis, engineering, manufacturing process development, and validation of the findings. Lear’s PVI method ensures that our knowledge and expertise are delivered for all consumers’ wants and manufacturers’ needs.
The PVI Process
Consumer Research
Through Lear’s proprietary research, the targeted consumers’ wants and needs are uncovered. Design guidelines are compiled that fulfill this desired “wish list.”
Industrial Design and Visualization
Interior concepts are brought to life that employ Lear’s consumer research and advance the vehicles’ brand images.
Engineering
Lear professionals focus on particular aspects of importance to customers and consumers such as modularity, safety, acoustics, low mass, comfort, and convenience.
Technical Analysis
Performance, longevity, and function are fully analyzed to ensure the customers’ needs and requirements are being met.
Manufacturing Process Development
Saving time and lowering costs are primary concerns during this “process improvement” stage. Environmental issues are also addressed.
Validation
This is the proving-grounds stage of the PVI method. Products are certified to meet governmental and customer safety specifications. Components and systems are fully tested for physical durability; life-cycle integrity; noise, vibration and harshness (NVH); and strength.
